Everton investigating homophobic chants

Everton are investigating alleged homophobic chanting in their win over Chelsea.

Saturday’s comprehensive 3-1 victory over the west Londoners saw the Blues return to winning ways under caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson.

But the game has been overshadowed by reports that a small section of the Goodison Park crowd aimed offensive chants in the direction of travelling fans.

Club officials are working alongside Merseyside Police and Kick It Out on the matter, which happened on the Premier League’s designated LGBT match day.

“Homophobia has no place within our stadium, our club, our community or our game,” read an Everton statement.

“The club strongly condemns such behaviour and is carrying out a thorough investigation which will include liaison with Merseyside Police.

“Matchgoers who have information relating to any form of discrimination should email reportit@evertonfc.com.”
