Marco Silva set to oversee Liverpool clash

Marco Silva will oversee Everton’s clash with Liverpool despite growing pressure.

Sunday’s stoppage-time defeat to Leicester City left the Blues languishing in 17 place, just two points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Ihenacho condemned Silva’s side to back-to-back defeats heading into Wednesday’s 234th Merseyside derby at Anfield.

But the under-fire Everton manager is set to be backed for the encounter against the league leaders in spite of growing calls for his departure by supporters.

Director of football Marcel Brands backed Silva ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium with a statement calling for unity in the ranks at Goodison Park.

Asked following the defeat whether he would still be in charge at Anfield, the ex-Watford and Hull City boss replied: “I am not the right person to ask.”

However it has since been confirmed that Silva will hold his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against the European champions.
