Everton in hunt for Premier League winner

Everton have joined the hunt for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

Delph is set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium and faces stern competition following a series of key additions this summer.

The England international’s midfield prospects have been hit by Rodri’s arrival from Atletico Madrid on for club-record transfer fee of £62.8 million.

His hopes of operating at left-back, where he has played regularly under Pep Guardiola, are similarly undermined by Angelino’s return from PSV Eindhoven.

It is expected that Delph will be allowed to leave the Premier League champions and the Blues are set to be among a host of clubs willing to make offers.

The 29-year-old would be an out-of-step move by the Goodison Park hierarchy, who have been pursuing a younger calibre of players in the previous 12 months.

But the wealth experience and versatility that Delph would be able to offer is understood to be a key selling point in Everton weighing up a potential move.

Should the former Leeds and Aston Villa player arrive on Merseyside, it is expected to pave the way for James McCarthy to seal his own exit.

Republic of Ireland international McCarthy has struggled to reclaim a starring role for Marco Silva’s side since suffering a double leg break in January 2018.
