Digne scoops Everton awards double

Lucas Digne has scooped a double at Everton’s end-of-season awards.

Digne’s impressive debut season at Goodison Park was reflected in the left-back receiving the club’s Player of the Season as well as the Players’ Player accolade.

The France international contributed four goals and assists apiece in 33 Premier League starts and was part of a Blues defence which kept 14 clean sheets.

He shared the Players’ award with Idrissa Gueye, who was formerly his teammate at Lille prior to the pair both joining the Blues in recent seasons.

Gueye made the second-highest number of tackles in the league with 143, with only Leicester City’s Wilfried Ndidi ranking higher by a solitary challenge.

“It is a big pleasure that the fans chose me for this award,” said Digne.

“I am so happy to win this trophy in my first season in the Premier League. We are building something and I am very happy to be part of this team.

“I have a very good feeling with the Evertonians, they welcomed me the best way I could imagine and it is amazing to play in front of them at Goodison Park.”

Gueye added: “I am just happy to play with Lucas again, he is a nice guy and a good friend.”

Another newcomer was among the winners with Richarlison crowned Young Player of the Season after scoring 13 goals since a £40 million move from Watford.

Marcel Brands, Everton’s Director of Football, presented the Brazillian with the award, saying: “He was amazing, scoring great goals and was very important for Everton this season.”

David Unsworth received the Everton Giant award after leading the club’s under-23 side to the Premier League 2 title as well as the Premier League Cup.

The U23s themselves were given the Howard Kendall Award, which acknowledges an area of outstanding achievement at the club.

Michael Keane was awarded the Blueblood, which Duncan Ferguson, Tim Cahill and David Moyes have all previously been winners, by chairman Bill Kenwright.

In the Goal of the Season category, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s long-range strike in October’s win over Leicester was voted as the overwhelming favourite.

This year’s version of The Dixies takes the form of a magazine-style show which is set to be made available on Everton’s official website on Tuesday, May 14.

Official members will have access to the content from 5pm with all supporters able to access the video on demand at 8pm from the club’s YouTube channel.
