Roberto Martinez has hailed Leicester City’s Premier League title win – but insists Everton have no plans to replicate their success.
Martinez’s players will form a guard of honour for the Foxes before tomorrow evening’s encounter at the King Power Stadium, after which Claudio Ranieri’s side will be presented with the trophy following their coronation on Monday night.
The Blues head into the game an astonishing ten places and 33 points behind their hosts in the Premier League table, despite starting the campaign with a highly-rated squad deemed worthy of a top four challenge.
However former Wigan manager Martinez has argued that although Everton must view Leicester as an inspiration, they will not look to learn lessons from their success this season.
He said: “I don’t think clubs work at what others are doing, you have your own structure, plan and process.
“Everyone will have an opinion, but I just see it as an inspirational example, to be celebrated. You haven’t seen a story like Leicester in the Premier League.
“It’s an interesting debate. It’s an incredible achievement. You can see it as the exception, or as something that changes the landscape. It’s too early to say.
“It’s a great inspiration for any team sport, to dream high. But you need to be realistic. It won’t be repeated easily.”
