Roberto Martinez has claimed Phil Jagielka ‘had no right’ to play through Everton’s FA Cup semi-final defeat.
The Blues captain was a serious doubt for the game after injuring a hamstring two weeks earlier against Watford but played the full 90 minutes at Wembley last weekend despite Martinez’s previous insistence that the player was not ‘medically ready’.
And now it has emerged that Jagielka aggravated the problem in the reversal to Manchester United, with the defender now ruled out for the Premier League visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.
He said: “Phil Jagielka got through [last] Saturday’s game when he had no right to.
“He’s going to be missing now for the next few games.
“It’s too early to know if he is going to miss the rest of the season.”
