Liverpool legend backs calls to jail Funes Mori

John Aldridge has backed extraordinary calls demanding Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori be jailed for his X-rated challenge during the 226th Merseyside derby.

Liverpool striker Divock Origi was on the receiving end of the Argentine’s lunge in the second half of Wednesday’s Anfield clash, which is now set to rule the 21-year-old out of the rest of this season and Euro 2016.

Funes Mori received a straight red for the challenge on the Belgian and has been the subject of fierce criticism after gesturing to the Everton crest on his shirt as he left the field.

But former striker Reds legend Aldridge has waded into the row over the tackle on Twitter following claims by comedian Gary Skyner that the Blues centre-back, who will now miss tomorrow’s FA Cup semi-final as a consequence, should be ‘sent down’.

“Strong words from my pal, but it rings true to the ear,” wrote Aldridge.

“He let is [sic] club, team mates, and fans down,” in reply to friend Gary Skyner’s post asking for Mori to be “sent down.”
