Roberto Martinez urges Everton FC players to do fans proud in Liverpool clash

Roberto Martinez wants to his players to make Everton fans proud in their eagerly anticipated clash with Liverpool.

Tomorrow’s 226th Merseyside derby at Anfield comes three days before the Blues prepare to do battle with Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.

And Martinez is relishing the chance for Everton to end a largely underwhelming season on a high.

He said: “The focus is solely on the Merseyside derby, and the game is all about the players enjoying their football and making the fans proud.

“We are looking forward to the next five games, and we need the fans in the semi-final, everything we do is to make the fans proud.”

Martinez has been under pressure in recent weeks, with the Blues currently win-less in their last six Premier League games, and have not tasted a domestic victory at Goodison Park since the beginning February.

However the Catalan acknowledged that home form has be an issue in 2016, but he insisted that the club are doing all they can go turn things around.

“We understand that no one can be happy about the form at home, but we are doing everything we can do (to improve).”
