Roberto Martinez has insisted that Everton will not be distracted by rumours surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s future.
Lukaku has been linked with an exit from Goodison Park this summer, despite netting 25 goals for the Toffees this season, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain both said to be leading the chase.
But ahead of tomorrow’s Merseyside derby clash with Liverpool, Martinez has refused to be drawn on speculation linking the Belgium international with a move away.
He said: “The message is clear; we won’t be getting distracted by speculation (ahead of their trip to Anfield tomorrow).”
The rumours surrounding Lukaku’s potential departure from Everton have intensified in recent weeks following the Beligian’s claim that he wants to play Champions League football next season.
“That is the next step for me. I’m 23 next summer and I think it would be nice to play in the Champions League from next season.”
If Everton do opt to sell Lukaku, they are set to demand in excess of £40 million for the powerful front man, with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and former club Chelsea all rumoured to be interested.
