Roberto Martinez claims Leighton Baines has ‘apologised’ for publicly claiming Everton’s players lacked chemistry.
The England international’s remarks in the aftermath of the Blues’ defeat to Manchester United last weekend seemed to suggest that the club’s recent run of poor form in the league may be as a result of a lack of cohesion on the pitch.
Martinez was left disappointed by the way in which he believes the player’s words were misconstrued by the national media and has claimed the interview was taken out of context.
He said: “It is very disappointing when you see a misinterpretation of a player’s words, and clearly this has taken out of context.
“I’ve had a chat with him and he knows he has to take responsibility for those words. He’s apologised and taken responsibility for leaving those words open.
“He has put himself in a position where he has given the wrong words. He’s apologised and we will move forward.”
