Walton Hall Park campaigners renew Everton FC stadium protests

Protestors have taken to Walton Hall Park to campaign against Everton’s plans to build a stadium on the green space.

Around 100 people took to the park with banners and signage with the message “Save Our Park”.

Everton FC and Liverpool City Council are still in talks over how they will move forward with the clubs plans to relocate to Walton Hall Park.

Current proposals will see the green space become the home of Everton whilst also creating 1,000 new homes and 30,000 square feet of leisure, retail and restaurant space.

Chrissie Byrne, a resident and chair of the Friends of Walton Hall Park, said: “I was really proud that everyone came out today on a Sunday morning. It shows how passionate people are. This is our park – I grew up here, and my children have too.

“We were all in complete shock when the council announced it could be built on. Thousands of terraced houses near here don’t have gardens – these are our gardens.”

The leaders of Liverpool’s Green and Liberal Democrats have both said they would oppose any development.
