A man was attacked with a bar outside a Liverpool city centre pub.
Police were called to Renshaw Street at 8.40pm on Friday (July 24) after reports that a man in his 40s had been struck during an incident near The Blarney Stone.
The man sustained head injuries and has been taken to hospital to be assessed.
Officers are currently at the scene conducting enquiries and CCTV opportunities in the area are being explored.
Detective Inspector Joh Holden said: “It is completely unacceptable for anyone to be subjected to such a violent assault, and for people enjoying a Friday evening in our city centre to have to witness an incident of this nature.
“We know Renshaw Street would have been busy with people at 8.40pm and we appeal to anyone we have not yet spoken to who may have seen any part of this incident to contact us.
“If you were a motorist passing at the time and may have captured dashcam footage of the incident, or anyone involved, we are also keen to hear from you.
You may hold evidence – however small it may seem – that could prove crucial to our enquiries as we work to establish what exactly happened and who was involved.”
