An ex-Liverpool councillor has been charged with sending threatening messages.
Gerard Woodhouse previously represented Labour in the County ward in Walton between 2010 and 2022 before standing as an independent the folloiwng year.
The 62-year-old was not allowed to stand for the party in the 2023 local elections and lost his appeal against the decision as new councillors were appointed.
Merseyside Police have now confirmed that Woodhouse has been charged over harrassment towards a woman between October 2023 and August this year.
The force said that the victim was sent ‘multiple cards in the post with offensive insults and threats made towards her’ during the aforementioned period.
Woodhouse, of Anfield, has now been charged with harassment without violence and has been he was conditionally bailed in connection with the offences.
He is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court next month on October 24.
