Everton FC hail Hillsborough verdict ‘greatest victory in football history’

Everton FC have hailed today’s Hillsborough inquest verdict as the ‘greatest victory in the history of football’.

Today’s announcement declared that the 96 Liverpool fans who died in April 1989 were unlawfully killed.

In the 27 years since the tragedy in Sheffield, the Blues have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with their Merseyside counterparts and last year unveiled a permanent memorial at Goodison Park.

And shortly after the 11am verdict was reached, Everton paid tribute to the fight for justice.

“Everton Football Club salutes the Hillsborough families and their total vindication as Fighters for Justice,” read a club statement.

“Theirs is the greatest victory in the history of football.

“RIP, the 96. Good night, God bless.

“From us across the Park.”
