Lifelong Everton fan Mick Cullen, better known as ‘Speedo Mick’ smashed his fundraising target of £50,000 as part of his charity walk to Wembley ahead of the Blues FA Cup semi-final last Saturday.
The Blues supporter has achieved stardom among football fans across the country by attending every one of Everton’s Premier League games this season in his swimming costume.
However he pledged to go one step further by walking to Wembley for the Toffees clash with Manchester United, as part of his efforts to raise money for the Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust.
The journey took the hardy Evertonian ten days to complete, covering roughly 200 miles, and despite Everton’s defeat on Saturday, Cullen was keen to look at the positives.
“I’m very tired, but elated. On the last day I was very happy all of the way and it was great to arrive there (at Wembley).”
Speedo Mick, who also raised £30,000 for his charitable cause by swimming the English Channel, recieved a warm message of support from Woodlands following his incredible journey.
“We are very proud and appreciative of Michael’s efforts. We would like to give a massive and sincere thank you to Speedo Mick and all of those who supported him”, said Caroline Riley of Woodlands Trust.
