Liverpool singer Rebecca Ferguson has claimed that she has been invited to appear at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
Trump will be officially sworn in as the 45th president of the United States in a ceremony on January 20 and reportedly asked Ferguson to perform.
The former X Factor star confirmed on Twitter that she had been requested to appear at the event in Washington DC but would only agree on one condition.
Ferguson, from Anfield, has requested that she can sing Billie Holiday’s civil rights anthem ‘Strange Fruit’ at the ceremony in the state’s Capitol.
“I’ve been asked and this is my answer,” wrote Ferguson.
“If you allow me to sing ‘Strange Fruit’ a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial.
“A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States.
“A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington.”
