Wahaca says that it takes it’s inspiration from “the markets of Mexico” and the edgy, colourful surroundings of Wahaca Liverpool certainly stay true to that.
Set in the Liverpool One are of the City Centre this venue seems to have something for everyone. Careful attention to detail has been paid to the decor of this restaurant which pays dividends. This place has a stunning roof terrace – which will be even better in the summer!
The restaurant also houses a wonderfully appointed cocktail bar so this isn’t just a restaurant – if you fancy a few drinks then it is a great place to hang out with friends!
We didn’t bother with a starter on this occasions but there are tonnes of “small plates” to choose from which is great. There are also at least 6 starter type small plates you can choose from on the gluten-free menu which is great.
We did however try out some of the Mocktails and “Agua Fresca’s” – the hibiscus flower Agua Fresca and the passion fruit and hibiscus cooler mocktails deserve a special mention!
We both opted for the Chicken enchiladas Suizas (£8.95) from the gluten free menu. It wasn’t entirely what I expected – I would have thought more tomato-ey. However it was very tasty and relatively filling. My only complaint is that I wish the portion size was a little bigger.
We also have the side order of Sweet Potato – which I honestly can not recommend enough. This was some of the tastiest Sweet Potato that I had ever had. Everyone who visits Wahaca should try it.
The puddings for me where a concern – gluten free puddings don’t tend to be great and when the standard menu has tasty treats such as Churros our options did not seem all that exciting.
I could not have been more wrong. We opted for the salted caramel ice-cream which seems pretty plain but of course, it has the Wahaca twist! The twist was that this seriously tasty ice cream is loaded with chunks of chocolate and it was honestly one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had.
Even better – we got to use the funky Wahaca spoons that are so regularly pinched!
The staff at Wahaca are also brilliant – they seriously can not do enough for you. We didn’t feel like anything was too much trouble, especially when the gluten free menu was explained to us.
This place has a really grown up vibe to it, which is great – but at the same time I don’t think I would have felt out of place going with my family.
This offers good value for money, perhaps not the best in the city, but when you take in to account your surroundings it definitely sets it apart.
