Review: Firin at Holiday Inn, Manchester Airport

Firin is a modern Turkish restaurant set within the Holiday Inn at Manchester Airport. The hotel is perfectly located for Terminal 2, it’s a two-minute walk to check in desks. The hotel itself is super modern, luxurious and super comfortable. Check in staff were friendly and even accommodated a grab and go breakfast due to our flight being so early.

The Turkish word firin means “oven” and the start of the show is pide, a flatbread which is cooked in a beautifully tiled pizza oven which centres the restaurant. This restaurant is busy which is to be expected given the size of the hotel however it does not feel that way as the restaurant is roomy meaning there is plenty of space.

The menu is extensive with options for Meze, if you fancy a lighter bite as well as a full selection of Pide and Main Courses. To start we shared Hummus and Falafel from the Meze section of the menu. The Hummus was delicious, fresh and served with an oven baked flatbread. The Falafel was lovely however heavy on the coriander which may not be to everyone’s liking. We were also had a member of our party who had dietary requirements which the restaurant staff were very helpful and understanding of.

We all opted to order mains from the “Stove and Grill” section. We ordered the Chicken Shish, which for me was a little overcooked however still tasty and represented good value for money as this came served with flatbread and tzatziki. The Ribeye Steak was cooked to perfection with the right amount of “smokey”. Served with delicious skin on chips, peppercorn sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes it came with all the traditional extras you would expect.

The Dessert menu features traditional Turkish Desserts such as Balklava and Kunufe however we opted for the Chocolate Brownie and Lemon Cheesecake. Both of which were delicious, and light enough following the previous two courses. They were served beautifully and the perfect finale to a lovely meal.

Airport Hotel Restaurants have a reputation as being far from the best however Firin offers fresh, well made food of a very high standard. This isn’t your usually pizza, burgers offering which can also be found under room service – it’s a real treat and the perfect start to your travels.
