Morning Noon Night is nestled away in the Wirral Village of Neston. After a short but pleasant car journey through the country roads you are welcomed by the rustic yet inviting decor of this independent eatery.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Service is relaxed, which is good, you do not always want an incredibly formal dining experience. The staff are happy to make suggestions on both the drinks menu and the small plates menu. I feel it is always good to get the staff’s opinion on dishes as they often do know it best.
We started with rhubarb prosecco which was not a combination I have ever started before. As a huge fan of rhubarb and prosecco, this was right up my street. Priced at £6.50, this seems to be about the going rate for a Bellini style cocktail. We also have some Nduja toast and Garlic Rubbed Sourdough to start. The Nduja toast was spicy, very spicy but tasty and a good little started. The Garlic Rubbed bread was my favourite, light and delicious.
As it was as sunny Saturday evening in Neston, Cocktails were on the agenda so we also tried Peach Fizz and Cucumber & Elderflower bowls. Again, a good size for the price and very tasty indeed. The Cucumber & Elderflower Bowl is a site to behold and is definitely recommended for Gin lovers.
Morning Noon Night operate a small plates menu on a Friday and Saturday evening which appears to differ on a weekly basis based on the fresh, local produce available that week. In my opinion, most of the plates really weren’t that small and were very generous portion sizes.
The stand out dish for me was the Twice Cooked Chicken. I would go so far as to say, it was the best chicken dish that I have ever tasted. Perfectly cooked, still full of flavour despite being twice cooked and served with a delicious crispy skin. The Korean Ketchup with Black Sesame was super tasty. I didn’t really want to share it and I was desperate to ask the chef how they’d done it.
The Jersey Royals with Purple Sprouting Broccoli was also another firm favourite. It was served chilled which was lovely and refreshing. The Caper and Raisin dressing was divine and the flavour combinations together worked really well. It was a lovely dish to look at and even better to taste.
Other dishes we tried were the Crispy Duck, Wye Valley Asparagus, Coffee Braised Brisket and Crab Fregola. The menu at Morning Noon Night is really varied and has something for everyone. The vegetarian options such as Wye Valley Asparagus are light, refreshing and very flavoursome. All of the vegetable based options surprised me really, as a dedicated meat eater, I was expecting tasteless and this could not be further from the truth.
The team at Morning Noon Night have clearly thought outside the box to offer foods that perhaps people have not tried before or have certainly not tried this version of them. For example, the duck is served with Kholrabi pancakes and a Rhubarb sauce. Both, absolutely delicious but I had never seen on a menu before.
To finish we ordered both the Rhubarb and Cardamon Fool and the Cucumber and Elderflower Ice. The Rhubarb and Cardamon Fool was my absolute favourite. The tartness of the Rhubarb is delicately balanced against the rest of the dish. It also came served with chunks of delicious toasted white chocolate which was just fantastic. The Ice is a lovely dish to close a meal with though, it is refreshing and cleanses the palette beautifully.
Morning Noon Night have a lovely little set up, with great staff, in a pleasant village. It’s good to get out of the city and try something a little further afield. The food is spot on, the drinks are even better and I can’t recommend it enough.
