Liverpool’s Alma De Cuba will be transformed to include a hotel as part of plans by its new owners.
The Grade II listed building has been a popular venue in the city’s bar scene for over a decade but is now set to be taken over by developers Signature Living.
A £3.1 million deal will see the Seel Street property, previously St Peter’s Catholic Church, retain its Latin American roots in its latest incarnation.
Signature Living have also acquired the rights to the Alma De Cuba brand, which they intend to roll out to other cities alongside the new hotel development.
Plans for a hotel located next to the city centre night spot are set to be revealed in in the coming weeks.
Lawrence Kenwright, founder of Signature Living, said: “Alma De Cuba is an incredibly strong brand so we are thrilled to be announcing our acquisition today as well as our plans for a new hotel.
“This is yet another landmark moment for Signature Living. We are a growing company with great ambitions, and the Alma De Cuba brand is now very much part of that.”
Daniel Hughes, from City PR, has hailed the plans, saying: “Alma De Cuba is a brand synonymous with entertainment, fun and is renowned for a great night out.
“It is a major destination venue for people in Liverpool as well as tourists to the city.
“Signature Living’s purchase and the plans for the new hotel are a big deal for Liverpool – the new Alma De Cuba will enhance the visitor offer and further put Liverpool on the tourism map.”
