Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle has been crowned as one of the UK’s leading ‘Hip Hang-outs’.
The creative hub beat Manchester’s Northern Quarter and three prominent London hot spots in TravelSupermarket’s ‘Hip Hang-out Neighbourhood Index’.
Ancoats topped the UK chart while Edinburgh’s Leith area finished second while Berlin suburb Kreuzberg and Latvian city Riga dominated the European top two.
A second Liverpool location also featured in the top 20 list with the Ropewalks neighbourhood, which shared 15th place with Glasgow’s West End.
TravelSupermarket scoured the UK and Europe for independent cafes and vintage shops and declared the Baltic Triangle a ‘creative playground’ filled with authenticity and alternative activities.
Chris Brown, Director of Marketing Liverpool, believes the ranking shows the area’s appeal as an eclectic destination for leisure and small business alike.
He said: “In the last few years, the Baltic Triangle has become a destination in its own right.
“As well as being home to the city’s creative and digital scene, the variety of cafes, bars and club nights make it a great place for visitors from morning until the early hours.
“Mainstays like Camp and Furnace and Constellations are constantly being joined by newer venues, and it’s this evolution which makes it so exciting.”
Emma Coulthurst, from TravelSupermarket, added: “The Index will hopefully put Liverpool even more on the map and encourage new and returning visitors to explore the city.
“We scoured the UK to find the most current, independent-feeling neighbourhoods.
“The destinations on the list are exciting areas, unspoiled by commercialism, where locals love to hang out.
“They offer an eclectic range of food and entertainment away from the tourist throngs.”
