Smash hit romantic musical comedy Waitress is coming to Liverpool.
Homegrown star Les Dennis will feature as Joe as the production brings its 10th anniversary tour to the city’s Empire Theatre between September 7 and 12.
The legendary Family Fortunes host boasts a plethora of West End credits including Inside Number 9, Stage Fright, Chicago and Only Fools and Horses: The Musical.
He will star opposite Sandra Marvin, who performs the role of Becky both in the West End and on tour, with further casting to be announced in due course.
On screen, the lead actor is best known for playing Jessie Grant/Dingle in soap Emmerdale and Patricia Williams in Call the Midwife.
Based on the 2007 movie written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress will feature music and lyrics by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles.
The show has enjoyed global success in North America, Japan, Holland, French language production in Canada and a Spanish language production in Mexico.
It tells the story of Jenna, an expert pie maker in a small town, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes to happiness.#
But Jenna must find the courage and strength within herself to rebuild her life. This beautiful musical celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
