Playhouse set to mark 150th anniversary with The Star

Liverpool Playhouse will retrace its steps as part of its 150th anniversary with The Star this Christmas.

Directed by Philip Wilson, the production will feature Michael Starke, best known for his role in Brookside and The Royal, with a supporting cast including Eithne Brown, Helen Cater and Michelle Butterly.

The Playhouse began life as The Star Music Hall in 1866 and established itself as a leading venue for variety and Music Hall acts of the day before becoming the Liverpool Repertory Theatre in 1911.

‘The Star’ celebrates the venue’s rich history with onstage magic and backstage deception, a love story, a dastardly plot and all manner of drama and mayhem in the wings.

Writer Michael Wynne previously played to packed houses at the city’s Everyman threatre with his 2014 offering Hope Place.

The Star runs at the Playhouse from Tuesday, December 8, 2016 until Saturday, January 14, 2017.

Tickets go on sale from July 11 and are available from £9. For more information, visit everymanplayhouse.com
