Brazilica announces 2016 festival programme

Brazilica organisers have announced the 2016 return of its popular Film Festival.

Following the success of last season’s film screenings, the festival’s organisers, the Liverpool Carnival Company, have promised to take the programme to new heights for this year’s celebration of Brazilian film and culture.

Nine films celebrating Brazilian life and culture will be screened at various venues across the city between Saturday, July 9 and Thursday August 4, with the majority free to view.

Festival goers can expect to encounter a wide range of genres, with everything from comedy, musicals and drama features through to some of the very best Brazilian documentaries and biographies, covered over the summer programme.

Highlights of this year’s festival include music documentary Samba & Jazz – Rio de Janeiro to New Orleans at the Capstone Theatre on Liverpool Hope University Campus and the engaging Tudo Que Aprendemos Juntos (The Violin Teacher) at The Lantern Theatre on Tuesday, July 26.

Speaking after the announcement, Film Festival Programmer Moulay Drissi said: “We are very excited about this year’s Brazilica film festival. Cinema is a great way to enter and discover the rich history and creativity of Brazilian art and culture.

“Again this year, we looked at highlighting the life of a major Brazilian artist and exploring behind the scenes of the Rio carnival.

“The final roster includes films and documentaries celebrating Brazil’s music and dance as well as comedy and drama. All of the screenings are free, and to be shown in fantastic venues across Liverpool.”
