A search for the next singing star to play the role of Cilla Black in an upcoming musical about the star will take place in Liverpool next week.
Open auditions for the starring role in the debut production of ‘Cilla The Musical’ is set to begin at the city’s Empire Theatre from 9am on Tuesday, May 2.
Hundreds of applicants have already registered with many more expected to attend at the open auditions on the day of what it set to be a memorable event.
Based on the critically acclaimed ITV mini-series based on the late singer’s early life, Cilla The Musical will focus on her early rise to stardom in Liverpool.
Cilla’s son Robert Willis is an executive producer on the forthcoming Bill Kenwright production, which will open in her home town on September 16.
He said: “My Mum loved singing and performing ever since she was a young girl and she was determined to do what she loved.
“Having performed at the clubs around Liverpool, including the famous Cavern Club, she got her big break when Brian Epstein spotted her and signed her.
“It was the start of everything that was to follow. She was a natural born performer who lived to entertain her audience.
“We are hoping to find that person who also dreams big and has the talent to match but just needs the chance to show it. We can’t wait to meet you!”
