Award-winning films set for Liverpool monthly screenings

Film enthusiasts in Liverpool will have a 2017 to look forward to with the launch of BIFA Independents.

The year-long screening programme which gives audiences a chance to enjoy the best of British independent filmmaking on the big screen.

Each month a film either nominated for or winner from the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) will be screened at the city’s Odeon cinema in Liverpool One.

BIFA Director Amy Gustin said, “We are delighted to be working with the BFI to share British independent filmmaking with audiences across the country.

“Celebrating and promoting British film is central to everything we do.

“Through BIFA Independents the public will have the opportunity to discover new talent and re-visit films by established filmmakers they may have missed when first released in cinemas.”

Local BIFA Champion Ryan Garry, who also hosts a monthly film festival in the city, said, “I’m really pleased to be working with BIFA on their programme of screenings.

“There’s a really vibrant creative scene in Liverpool who I know will appreciate what we’re doing.

“There’s an incredible selection of films coming up, including Under the Shadow, Trespass Against Us and The Ghoul – all of which I can’t wait to see up again on the big screen.”

Now in its 20th year, BIFA highlights and rewards the best, most innovative and creative independent film making and filmmakers in the UK.

Previous ‘Best British Independent Film’ winners include This Is England, Sweet Sixteen, Vera Drake, The King’s Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Moon, Pride, Ex Machina and most recently American Honey.

The next film will be three-time BIFA winner Under the Shadow on January 24 at 6.30pm at the Liverpool ONE Odeon. Tickets are available here.
