St George’s Hall will again host Lovehistory’s popular catacombs tours in 2017 with brand new and even darker stories of Liverpool’s Victorian gang scene.
Back by popular demand, the theatrical production has announced the latest in the series of the popular ‘Catacombs of Liverpool’s Darkest History’.
The new tour will run for six days from February 20, 2017 and follows on from the success of Series 6 of the catacomb tours.
Liverpool in the 19th century was a place full of contradictions and duality; a city of rich/poor, lawful/lawless, civilised/uncivilised, prosperous merchants, powerful men and influential traders and a city of thieves, robbers and murders.
Against the backdrop of the rich and the privileged a war was fought on the city’s streets, a war which ended for many in the Courts of St George’s Hall and at the end of the hangman’s rope.
The gangs of Liverpool’s past will introduce the toughest of sailors known as The Packet Rats, The High Rip Gang who spread violence around the streets of Scotland Road, the footmen, highwaymen and all those who lived an unruly and lawless existence will return in a spectacular promenade performance through the darkest parts of the Hall.
These new and powerful interpretations will once again uncover the tales of past criminals who were hanged for their crimes, those who were judged and sentenced by law, and those who carried out the sentence of the court – the executioner.
Lovehistory’s previous Catacombs sell-out tours have seen over 1,000 visitors descend on St George’s Hall in one week to hear the series of local stories.
Judy McLean, creative director of Lovehistory, said: “We have been delighted with the success of these productions and this one will be very special as we uncover the Gangs of Liverpool and bring a truly fascinating period of Liverpool’s history to life.
“We have a great team, powerful scripts, great actors and the best venue in the city. We can’t wait for the next series.”
