St George’s Hall leads Remembrance Sunday tributes

Thousands of poppy petals were released from the roof of St George’s Hall as Merseyside commemorated Remembrance Sunday.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Roz Gladden, lead the tributes on the centenary of the Battle of the Somme at the city’s Cenotaph to honour Britain’s fallen war heroes.

Carrier pigeons with messages of peace were released before the thousands gathered on St George’s Plateau observed an impeccable two-minute silence.

Petals later rained down from atop the Grade I listed building as others across the region also paid tribute with a ceremony taking place at Birkenhead Town Hall.
