Initial plans have been released for a new state-of-the-art specialist police operational command centre to be built in Speke.
The centre is being built to create a home for Merseyside Police’s serious and organised crimes units, focusing particularly on gang crime and drug cartels.
The site of the new unit will be Estuary Business Park in Speke, with funding already secured, building work is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Kennedy hailed the encouraging news for local law enforcement.
“I am so pleased that we are now at a stage when work can officially get underway. The new OCC demonstrates our commitment to fight serious and organised crime.”
It is hoped that by combining the work of varying Police departments it will make the efforts more effectual and streamlined.
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson also hailed the development as a step forward to a safer Liverpool.
“This development will provide excellent new facilities for Merseyside Police in their fight against some of the most serious crimes, helping keep our communities safe.”
