Police called to bank robbery in Southport

Police were called to the scene of an robbery at bank in Southport shortly after 9am this morning.

The HSBC branch in Hesketh Bank was believed to have been raided at around 9am, with a vehicle, believed to be the getaway car set alight outside the bank.

Upon the Police’s arrival at the scene they found the car on fire, with smoke billowing out if it, with the assailants having already exited the area.

Details including whether or not any money was stolen, or why the car was set alight at the scene, are yet to be clear and Police are continuing their investigations.

“We were called today at around 9.10am to reports of a robbery at the HSBC bank, Station Road, Hesketh Bank. Officers attended and found the offenders had made their escape after setting ablaze and then abandoning their vehicles” said a Police spokesman.

He added that “no staff were injured and enquiries are ongoing.”
