An Anfield man has been jailed for 10 years after stabbing a city centre doorman.
Connor Warren was handed the sentence in connection with an attack on a member of security staff from the Revolution bar on April 9 this year.
The 22-year-old was asked to provide proof of his age after he had attempted to enter the Temple Street venue at which point he assaulted one of the door staff by pushing him backwards.
He then ran off up Temple Street towards Victoria Street as a second member of door staff followed him and attempted to detain him for the assault.
At the junction of Victoria Street and North John Street, click Warren stopped and without warning he swung a knife at the member of staff hitting him in the rib cage.
The doorman underwent three hours of surgery to remove the four-inch knife blade from his body and repair the punctured lung which required 40 stitches and left a 13-inch scar.
Warren, from Walton Breck Road, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Liverpool Crown Court earlier today.
Detective Inspector Ian Warlow said: “I want to make it clear that Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of knives on our streets.
“Liverpool has a well-deserved reputation as a safe and vibrant place to enjoy a night out and we want that to continue.
“We want people to feel confident and safe in the knowledge that they will be able to come to Liverpool and have a great night out without any worries.
“The force is committed to reducing violent crime and keeping the streets of the city safe and we are continually working with licensees and partner agencies to ensure that Liverpool remains a safe and popular place to visit.
“I also want to reassure our communities that we will act on all information reported to us in relation to violent crime and knives.
“Anyone with information can call police on 101 or the confidential Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
