Liverpool music icon Pete Burns dies aged 57

Former Dead or Alive front man Pete Burns has died at the age of 57.

A statement on his official Twitter account confirmed that he passed away on Sunday following a cardiac arrest.

Burns rose to prominence at the fulcrum of the Liverpool band, whose biggest hit was ‘You Spin Me Round’ in 1985, but began life working in the city’s iconic Probe Records store.

Before leading Dead or Alive, the Bebington-born singer headed up local bands Mystery Girls, and Nightmares in Wax.

His post-music career saw him involved in a number of TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother.

“It is with the greatest sadness that we have to break the tragic news that our beloved Pete Burns of (Dead Or Alive), died suddenly yesterday of a massive cardiac arrest,” read a statement.

“All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star.

“He was a true visionary, a beautiful talented soul, and he will be missed by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories the has left is with.

“We have no more words, we will make a further statement when we have had a chance to come to terms with our devastating loss.

“He will live forever in our memories.”
