Wirral Line alternatives revealed ahead of six-week shutdown

Transport bosses have revealed alternative service plans ahead of trains between Liverpool and Wirral being halted for six weeks next year.

Renovations of the Wirral Line on the Merseyrail network will see the trackbed beneath Liverpool city centre upgraded for the first time since 1977.

Commuters who regularly cross the River Mersey by rail will be afforded ‘high quality express’ buses as a replacement service when work begins on January 3.

People have been urged to leave their cars at home to avoid traffic congestion in Liverpool city centre and the Wirral tunnels.

Extra travelling time is also recommended with changing work hours in order to prevent problems at peak times among the suggestions.

Lime Street station is also set to be closed for nine days in September 2017 for remodelling purposes as part of the network’s ongoing regeneration work.
