Liverpool’s legendary stadium announcer George Sephton was taken to hospital after collapsing at Anfield.
Sephton had been in attendance at an event last night commemorating the 40th anniversary of Bob Paisley’s first trophies at the club when he took ill.
First-team player Kevin Stewart and several Reds legends, including Alan Kennedy and Ian Callaghan, were also present at the function organised by the Merseyside branch of Liverpool’s Official Supporters’ Club
Sephton remains synonymous with the soundtrack to match days at Anfield since 1971, earning him the nickname of the ‘Voice of Anfield’.
He originally responded to social media well-wishers by posting on Twitter: “Currently enjoying the delights of hospital food for couple of days!”
Several hours later, the broadcaster said: “Thank you for all your kind words.
“I’m pleased to say that after a worrying 15 hours in cardiology the hospital have sent me home!
“For the record, I had what’s called in the trade ‘a heart scare’ when stone cold sober and flaked out before collapsing. All is now well!”
