Man charged with ‘obscene and menacing’ email to Angela Eagle

A man is set to stand trial over abusive emails sent to Angela Eagle.

Steven King has been accused of sending ‘grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character’ to the Merseyside MP.

The 45-year-old from Paisley in Scotland will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court after being charged under the Malicious Communications Act.

Ms Eagle, the representative for Wallasey, has been subjected to a number of targeted attacks since making a failed bid to become leader of the Labour party.

Her constituency offices were attacked in July, just days after she had announced plans to challenge Jeremy Corbyn for the party’s premiership.

Subsequently Ms Eagle withdrew her campaign to become Labour leader.
