Tributes have poured in following the death of Merseyside footballer Zoe Tynan.
The 18-year-old, who played for both Everton Ladies and Manchester City Women, passed away yesterday afternoon.
It came just weeks after she had joined FA Women’s Premier League side Fylde Ladies and represented England up to under-19 level.
News of Tynan’s sudden death has shocked the women’s game with condolences being paid by former clubs and colleagues alike.
Among them was Everton Ladies’ manager Andy Spence, who worked with her during the formative stages of her career.
He said: “It is really sad news to hear about Zoe’s passing. Having worked with her from the age of 12, she was a fantastic person and a really talented footballer.
“She contributed a lot to the club while a youth player and she will be sorely missed. Zoe was always thought of as a really special person and someone who always wanted to do well for the club.
“There are a number of our players who have played with Zoe through the age groups and it is a difficult time for everyone who knew her.
“All of our thoughts are with her family, friends and teammates. As a club, we of course offer our support to anyone who needs it.
“I know her family personally and whatever we can do as a club for them we will do for as long as they need it.”
England under-19 coach Mo Marley recently enlisted Tynan for a training camp at St George’s Park and also paid tribute.
She said: “This is truly awful news and we were all so sad to hear of Zoe’s passing.
“Zoe has been involved in our squads for a number of years and was not only a very talented midfielder, but a hugely-liked and popular member of the team.
“I know that she will be much missed by her team-mates and staff members alike and I would like to send our deepest condolences to Zoe’s family from everyone involved at England.”
Tynan’s former club, City’s official Women’s team, also paid tribute on Twitter.
“All at MCWFC are saddened to hear the news of former youth player Zoe Tynan’s passing,” the club said.
“Our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
Closer to home, Liverpool FC Ladies player and friend Natasha Harding recalled when she first encountered the Mossley Hill teenager.
“I remember the day Zoe trialled at City,” she wrote.
“A young talent with bundles of potential. A sad day for everyone. Thoughts are with her family.”
