Merseyside MP’s trial for Scottish referendum assault adjourned

A Merseyside MP will have to wait until later this year to discover her fate from an alleged assault on the day of the Scottish referendum.

Marie Rimmer stands accused of kicking Patricia McLeish outside Shettleston Community Centre on September 18, 2014, the day the country went to the polls.

The Labour MP for St Helens South and Whiston, 69, denies the offence as well as behaving in an abusive manner towards others campaigners in favour of an independent Scotland.

But the hearing at Glasgow Sherriff Court was adjourned due to Liam Ewing, Ms Rimmer’s solicitor advocate, being unavailable to attend the case.

The court heart that his absence was due to being involved in a High Court trial, forcing Sheriff Kenneth Hogg to reschedule the hearing for November.
