A man accused of murder has been robbed and assaulted at HMP Liverpool.
Lawrence Johnson is being detained at the Walton jail for the killing of Alisha Samuels in Manchester on October 15 as well as the attempted murder of a man.
The 26-year-old was arrested by armed officers at a house in Bootle four days after Ms Samuels had died from multiple stab wounds in the Newton Heath area.
Two other men, Carl Hardy and Tony Evans – both aged 19 – have also been charged with murder in connection with the death and attempted murder cases.
Johnson has been remanded at HMP Liverpool ahead of a court hearing next month following his charge and appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
While inside, the murder suspect was subjected to an attack in a cell with video footage circulating on social media showing him being surrounded by inmates.
Johnson, who was wearing a grey prison-issue tracksuit at the time, also had items taken from him during the assault with the man filming encouraging the assailants.
“Violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate, and this incident was swiftly dealt with,” a Ministry of Justice spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo.
“Having a phone behind bars is unacceptable and we have ordered the immediate removal of these posts while investigating how this was able to happen.”
