Moyes makes Everton transfer window vow

David Moyes has vowed not to sell any of Everton’s current squad in January.

The ranks at Hill Dickinson Stadium were heavily diminished during the summer transfer window with only 18 outfield players at Moyes’ disposal when fully fit.

A sell-to-buy model took hold midway through the market while Blues owners The Friedkin Group confirmed on Friday that they have now put the club up for sale.

But Moyes insists that he will not be sacrificing any of his charges to free up funds while hoping he will still have options to strengthen with available resources.

Asked whether he could offload any players, the Everton manager said: “Don’t talk about that because I’m not selling any!

“Hopefully the people in charge will see through that as well and won’t do that to us.

“We failed on one or two players late on in the transfer window and I’d hope that those monies will still be available.

“I want to be really ambitious if I can, that was the plan when I came back. I’m too old to be hanging around just outside relegations battles and stuff like that.

“I want to be challenging and getting back into Europe. I did that at West Ham, going back and getting them into Europe for three years in a row and I want to do it for Everton.

“There is a generation here who won’t have seen European football and I want to see us back, so that’s my aim.”

The January window has been a productive one for Moyes since his return to the Everton hot seat with Charly Alcaraz and Tyrique George’s arrivals offering a lift.

Sunday’s trip to Hull City could see Everton extend an unbeaten start to the season which may enhance their appeal among prospective successors to the Friedkins.

Moyes added: “I don’t know how quickly football clubs sell, if there are that many walking about with the money to buy it?

“If Everton can keep themselves up around the top end it would be great.

“We’ve still got a lot to do to make sure we don’t drop away because our numbers could come to that.

“I need to be really careful because we’ve got some difficult games; first we’re away at Hull and then we’ve got Chelsea and Arsenal so things can change quickly.

“But I would like to be able to say to the supporters we might be able to spend a certain amount, it would be good to have an idea of that.”
