Dispersal zone in place in Kirkdale to crack down on anti-social behaviour

A dispersal zone has been placed on an area in Kirkdale in order to crack down on anti-social behavior and criminal activity.

The zone was in place from Friday evening until the early hours of this morning.

The zone was place in the Pincroft Way area. Roads included in the zone were the junction of Fountains Road, Easby Road and the whole of Stanley Close.

The zone was introduced under the Section 34 of the anti-social behaviour, crime and policing act which gives police officers powers to direct people away from an area for 48 hours if they believe that they are causing a nuisance or crime.

If a person re-enters the dispersal zone within 48 hours then they will have committed an offence and breaches can lead to an arrest.

Maria Hoogendky, Neighbourhood Inspector for Kirkdale, said “We have had reports from the community in Kirkdale and partner agencies that anti-social behaviour has increased within the area covered by the dispersal zone, involving youths gathering, taking and dealing drugs and intimidating members of the community and causing a nuisance.

“The introduction of this zone demonstrates that we are listening to and responding to their concerns.”
