Man falls from height in Liverpool city centre

A man is in hospital after falling from a height in Liverpool city centre.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to the LIPA Sixth Form College on Duke Street at around 9.20am on Monday (August 17).

They found an on-site contractor in an enclosed room on a rooftop at the higher education building, which is currently having a new roof installed.

He was safely brought down using an aerial by firefighters and taken to hospital with a leg injury, which ambulance chiefs say is not serious.

Stratus 9, lead consultants on the roof refurbishment, confirmed all works at the college has been suspended pending an investigation into the incident.

“Emergency services attended and the operative was taken to hospital,” read a statement.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident and the extent of the injury have yet to be fully established and are currently subject to an investigation being undertaken by the principal contractor.”

But principal Edward Pinner insists it will not impact Thursday’s enrolments.

He said: “We hope the man has a speedy recovery and send him our best wishes.

“We are open for enrolments and looking forward to seeing our new students.”
