Armed police descended on a Liverpool city centre hotel in a four hour stand-off.
Emergency services were called to Ropewalks Hotel on Seel Street at 4pm on Saturday (May 9) after reports a missing man had been seen in the area.
Threats were made by the man from inside a hotel room following the arrival of police which led to a containment being put in place as a precaution.
A cherry picker was also used to barricade the window which faces out onto the popular city centre nightspot while officers engaged with the man.
The stand-off finally ended at 8pm, at which point a 35-year-old from Tuebrook was arrested while a sword was also recovered from the scene.
He has been detained on suspicion of making threats to kill, affray, possession of a bladed article and attempted section 18 wounding.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
“We were called shortly after 4pm to a report the man had been seen in the area,” said a Merseyside Police spokesperson.
“Upon arrival, threats were made by the man to officers from inside a hotel room on Seel Street and officers put a containment in place as a precaution while they engaged with the man.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while this matter was dealt with.”
