Pair arrested over Bold Street bleach attack

Two people have been arrested after a bleach attack in Liverpool city centre.

Police were called to Bold Street at its juction with Newington at around 1.55pm on Wednesday (April 29) to reports that an unknown liquid had been squirted at a man.

The pair then made off in the direction of Bold Street while the victim was taken to hospital for an initial assessment of his injuries and since has been charged.

Detectives have since confirmed that tests revealed the liquid was bleach and detaind a 22-year-old woman from St Helens and a 23-year-old man from Liverpool.

They were arrested on suspicion of throw/cast corrosive fluid with intent to burn/maim/disfigure/disable/do grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Paula Jones said: “This is believed to have been a targeted attack and enquiries are ongoing to trace the suspects, who we believe made off on foot towards Oldham Street.

“I want to assure people that there is no wider risk to the public. If you were in the area or work on Bold Street, please check devices and pass on any images or footage directly to police.”
