Joey Barton has been denied bail ahead of his trial for attacking a man.
Barton and Gary O’Grady were charged of Section 18 wounding with intent over an assault close to Huyton and Prescot Golf Club at the beginning of this month.
The ex-footballer, 43, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday (March 20) in a bid to overturn his remand ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on April 7.
But Judge David Potter rejected Barton’s case put forward by Simon Csoka KC on his behalf during a largely private bail hearing before the ruling was announced.
Barton and O’Grady stand accused of assaulting former non-league football manager Kevin Lynch during the incident on the evening of Sunday, March 8.
Prosecutors claimed that Mr Lynch, who now oversees an additional needs school in Dovecot, may have suffered ‘irreversible’ injuries to his eyesight in the ordeal.
