A man who neglected his French bulldog has been banned from keeping dogs.
Daniel Chambers failed to seek urgent vet treatment for his dog Narla over two months after he had been ordered by the RSPCA in February last year.
The pet was found to be severely underweight and suffering from health problems including overgrown nails and a right eye which was ‘inflamed and weeping’.
Liverpool Magistrates’ Court heard that Chambers was visited by RSPCA inspector Anthony Joynes in April 2025 after refusing to comply with numerous follow-up calls.
The 32-year-old from Walton gave permission for the animal welfare inspector to take Narla to the charity’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital for treatment.
She was later moved to the RSPCA’s Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre in North Wales where she has made a good recovery from her issues ahead of being rehomed.
Chambers failed to attend a court hearing on August 21 last year, when the case was heard in his absence ahead of eventual sentencing on January 16.
A five-year disqualification order was passed down which prevents him from keeping dogs alongside a 12-month community order for the animal’s neglect.
He was also ordered to pay £500 in costs and a victim surcharge of £114.
Inspector Joynes said: “We tried to help the defendant by offering him financial assistance to help cover vet bills.
“But he failed to comply with a notice and didn’t do the right thing for the dog who would have been in great pain from the ingrowing nails.
