A leading Liverpool medical authority has been lamented for allowing a culture of bullying to fester amid failing services discovered in an investigative report.
Liverpool Community Health NHS trust became the subject of a Parliamentary debate after MP Rosie Cooper pushed for an enquiry into its operations.
The representative of West Lancashire spoke the need for an investigation following a first-hand experience of the trust with the care of her father in 2013.
Findings released in March feared that the trust may have contributed to a number of deaths in the region due to delayed diagnoses and unwarranted bullying.
Ben Gummer, the current Minister for Health, issued an apology on behalf of the Government for the failings while paying tribute to Ms Cooper’s fight for the report.
He said: “I would like first of all to offer an apology.
“It is right that the Government recognises when things go wrong, even if they are not within the direct control of ministers.
“Everything in the NHS is the responsibility ultimately of the Secretary of State and the ministerial team and I am sorry that the NHS in this instance let down her constituents.”
