Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has been found guilty of speeding.
The 74-year-old former player and manager was prosecuted on Monday (January 12) after being caught by a speed camera in Crosby on September 24 last year.
Court documents revealed that Dalglish was also accused by police of falling to identify himself as the driver during the incident in the village of Little Crosby.
He is said to have exceeded the area’s 20mph speed limit in his silver Mercedes and did not respond to officers when initially contacted about the driving offence.
In a note to the court, Dalglish said: “I do not remember receiving the letter asking for the information of the driver/rider of a vehicle.”
Although Merseyside Police agreed to withdraw the charge, magistrate Sylvia Yang handed down a £1,000 fine alongside £120 in costs and a £400 victim surcharge.
She also added three points to Dalglish’s licence for the speeding offence.
The Anfield hero was not required to attend the sentencing due to the Single Justice Procedure, which allows matters to be handled using written submissions in private.
