A man dressed as an elf has been arrested in Liverpool city centre.
Police stopped the man wearing the costume in Church Street on Thursday (December 11) after which he made abusive comments towards them.
When his details were verified, officers found that he was a named suspect in connection with an attack on Duke Street which took place on November 17.
A woman was punched in the face during the incident and suffered injuries to her lip and nose.
The 55-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of assault and was taken to a police station before being released on bail with conditions.
Merseyside Police made the arrest as part of Winter of Action, which is designed to keep town centres save during and beyond the Christmas period.
Superintendent Charlotte Irlam said: “Liverpool is a fantastic place to visit, socialise and work, and by working closely with our partners, we’re focused on preventing offences that often occur at this time of year, such as theft, robbery and retail crime.
