Police are appealing for witnesses after a middle-aged man was assaulted on Lark Lane last night.
At about 10pm, a report was received that a 50-year-old man had been struck to the head and knocked to the ground close to the Parkfield Inn by another man, who then kicked him to the head.
He sustained a cut to head and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is recovering as home.
The offender is described as white, and in his 20s with dark hair.
A full investigation has now been been launched and CCTV opportunities are being explored.
Detective Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “This assault not only left the victim with a head injury but has left him extremely shaken.
“The incident happened at a time when there would have been a number of people in and around the bars and restaurants in the Lark Lane area and I’d appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or the events leading up to it, and afterwards, to get in touch with us. Any information could prove vital in our investigation.”
Anyone with information can call officers on 0151 777 4060 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
