Angela Eagle’s Wallasey constituency office has been attacked today.
It was reported earlier this morning that the office at Sherlock House on Manor Road had been bricked in broad daylight.
Eagle was not at the offices during the time of attack. Shortly after being told of the incident she said: “All I’ve been told is they have put the windows through. I just got the message and I’m going there now.”
The attack comes the day after Angela Eagle announced her leadership campaign, challenging leader Jeremy Corbyn.
The Wallasey MP may also face deselection by her own local members after the Wallasey constituency Labour Party has urged her to support Jeremy Corbyn when plans for a vote of no confidence were first revealed.
Jeremy Corbyn released a statement relating to the incident saying “It is extremely concerning that Angela Eagle has been the victim of a threatening act and that other MPs are receiving abuse and threats.
“As someone who has also received death threats this week and previously, I am calling on all Labour Party members and supporters to act with calm and treat each other with respect and dignity, even where there is disagreement. I utterly condemn any violence or threats, which undermine the democracy within our party and have no place in our politics”.
